Capsule Endoscopy
Capsule Endoscopy (CE) is a valuable tool for gastroenterologists allowing for a thorough examination of the lining within the middle section of the gastrointestinal tract. This includes the three segments of the small intestine: the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum. During the procedure, your gastroenterologist will use a small video capsule, known as an endoscope, which contains its own lens and light source to capture images. These images are then displayed on a video monitor for assessment. You may hear terms like small bowel endoscopy, wireless endoscopy, or capsule endoscopy used interchangeably by your healthcare provider or the medical team.
